Jan Beneš specialises in American culture, politics and history at the University of Ostrava. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University and a member of the Czech and Slovak Association for American Studies. His research focuses primarily on modern U.S. history, culture and literature. He contributes to scholarly publications and Czech media, where he analyzes both historical and current political events in the United States.
